field trip and Workshop Dinner
Kenji Yoshikawa of the Water and Environmental Research Center, at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will lead a field trip for Workshop participants on Sunday 8 November in the afternoon. Workshop participants will take advantage of being in Fairbanks, at the leading edge of climate change, and observe evidence of active change in the area, particularly as observed in the changing permafrost. The tour will culminate at the Chena Hot Springs outside of Fairbanks for a workshop dinner hosted by the Norwegian Polar Research Institute and the Arctic Ocean Sciences Board of the International Arctic Science Committee. The field trip and dinner are being offered at no additional cost to Workshop participants.
*Kenji Yoshikawa* is an associate professor in the Water and Environmental Research Center (WERC), UAF. He is actively engaged in geophysical, geothermal, hydrologic and permafrost research throughout Alaska.
The field trip will conclude at the Chena Hot Springs Resort http://www.chenahotsprings.com/. Participants will have the opportunity to soak in the hot springs or enjoy a drink at the bar prior to the workshop dinner at 18:30. If you chose to enjoy the hot springs, please bring a swimsuit and towel. The cost of a soak in the hot springs is $6 per person. Towel rental is $5. The dinner is being hosted by and is courtesy of the Norwegian Research Council.
